An app that lets drivers auction off street parking spots to other drivers is facing issues in the only U.S. market where it operates.
San Francisco city attorney Dennis Herrera fired off a cease and desist letter to MonkeyParking on Monday, saying that the app violates San Francisco law, which states that individuals can not buy and sell street parking spaces.
The way that the app works is fairly simple. When you are looking for a parking space, you open the app, check the availability of spots in the vicinity and then set your price for a space. When your price is accepted, the person selling the spot will give you directions to the space and wait until you get there to leave.
In addition to the cease and desist letter, MonkeyParking faces another issue. According to Business Insider, Apple will not carry any app in its App Store that violates local laws.
