Mystery Surrounds Sale Of $23 Million Home Near DC's Embassy Row

The most expensive home sale in DC this year is a bit of a mystery.
A home in Massachusetts Avenue Heights near Embassy Row sold this week for $23 million, making it the priciest residential sale in the region in 2025. Beyond that, there isn't much information about the house.
Listed with Daniel Heider of TTR Sotheby's International Realty, the home technically went on the market on Monday, went under contract on Tuesday and then closed yesterday. What this likely means is that the home sold off-market but was entered into the multiple listing service (MLS) so the sale could be publicly recorded. Heider did not respond to UrbanTurf's request for comment on the transaction.
A home at the address sold back in 2013, but a new house looks to have been built in its place between 2015-2017. The MLS listing didn't provide any details about the house other than the address, and public records show that the home was owned through an LLC and purchased this week through another LLC.
The listing is located not far from the DC residence for PayPal founder Peter Thiel and joins a number of high-priced listings to have sold in this tony area in recent years.
