Plans are moving ahead for a large residential development at a central Arlington intersection.

The Fortis Cos. has filed a proposal with Arlington County for a seven-story, 188-unit apartment development at the site of three buildings located around 1840 Wilson Boulevard (map). Last year, Fortis submitted a conceptual plan for the sites, seeking county feedback on how tall a development the firm could build.

The buildings slated for redevelopment include a four-story office building occupied by the National Science Teaching Association, a two-story building occupied by Il Radicchio restaurant, and a one-story commercial building that is home to the Rhodeside Grill restaurant. Fortis completed acquisition of the buildings earlier this year.

"The proposed project carries forward the curved ground floor architectural feature at the corner of Wilson Boulevard and N. Rhodes to reflect the design of the Rhodeside Grill," documents filed with Arlington County stated. "The remainder of the Wilson Boulevard façade is proposed to be activated with ground floor retail and residential lobby uses."

The new building is designed by Cooper Carry. Look for a full rundown from UrbanTurf of the new development on the boards for this section of Arlington in the coming weeks.
