Americans aren’t the only nationality with a taste for large homes.
On Monday, Trulia’s Chief Economist Jed Kolko took a deeper look into what foreign investors are looking for in the U.S. housing market, size-wise. Earlier this summer, Kolko wrote a lengthy piece about the location and economics of international house hunting.
This time around, Kolko examined Trulia’s search data from the second quarter of the year to see what size of home citizens from various countries were most interested in, then determined the median home size viewed by each population and ranked them.
The surprise? Though Americans have (at least in the past) had a reputation for loving huge homes, we ranked 23rd in the Trulia anlysis. The median size of the homes we viewed was 1,854 square feet; 22 other countries, led by the Dutch, were more interested in even larger homes.
