Waking Up Underwater: Figure 1

In this week’s departure from DC real estate fare, we head underwater.

In what may be the coolest lodging option ever offered by a hotel, the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island (about 400 miles off the coast of Sri Lanka) is converting its underwater restaurant into a bedroom suite for two to celebrate the restaurant’s five-year anniversary.

While certainly not an option for every traveller out there (particularly those who are claustrophobic or scared of water), the chance to wake up in essentially the middle of an aquarium sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity to us.

According to the website Luxist, the restaurant “sits five meters below the surface of the Indian Ocean, encased in plexiglass and reached by descending a spiral staircase.” The website also notes that it can get so bright during lunchtime that diners have to wear sunglasses. So, don’t expect to sleep late if you are able to take advantage of this limited time offer. That said, with your surroundings, why would you want to go to sleep at all?
