UrbanTurf Reader Asks: What is the DC Tax Abatement Process Like?: Figure 1

In this installment of UrbanTurf Reader Asks, a reader inquires about specifics related to the DC Tax Abatement program and the experience of dealing with the DC Office of Tax and Revenue.

I was curious about UrbanTurf's readers familiarity with the DC tax abatement process from when you apply for it to when it actually happens. I am curious about the experience of applying for it and how it was working with the DC Office of Tax and Revenue.

UrbanTurf wrote about the tax abatement program back in May. The program offers a five-year exemption from paying property taxes for eligible buyers in the District. In addition, it exempts the purchaser from the 1.1% transfer and recordation taxes paid at closing, and provides the possibility of an additional 1.1% credit from the seller.
