Back in 1981, artists Charlie Schleichter, Suzanne Codi and a few of their friends bought the old Eckington Schoolhouse, and then set about converting the building into four residences. The result is some of the only true loft residences in DC, and the one owned by Schleichter and Codi just hit the market.

The pair's artistic styling can be seen throughout the 6,000 square-foot space, from the electric wall color choices to the industrial workshop spaces. Codi had professional fridges installed for floral workings while Schleichter created a metalwork shop and a place for clay sculpting. Ample open shelving is used to display art and literature.
Thick, exposed wooden beams, brick walls and angled skylights stand out among the pastel drywalls on the top floor. Soaring ceilings are consistent throughout the unit and many of the living spaces are open, giving the perception of a grand hall. The centerpiece of the loft may be the great room, which has been used to host weddings, and has huge windows, a full bar area, and an eye-catching floating wooden staircase.
A child's room includes a fairytale mural and a lofted play area, and the building has a large communal garden area and a gazebo.
