This Week's Find: A McInturff in the West End

1003 New Hampshire Avenue NW (map), just off Washington Circle on the Schneider Triangle, is on the National Register of Historic Places. But you’d never guess what’s inside by looking at the Richardsonian Romanesque exterior.

The home, purchased by the current owners in 2005, underwent a year-long renovation in 2006 by Mark McInturff, one of DC’s few brand-name architects. (See more homes he’s renovated here.) The most elaborate part of the renovation is a three-story center atrium extending to the ground floor, with the home’s dining room as the focal point.

The calling cards of a McIntuff project — a modern, minimalist aesthetic accentuated with light and bright colors — can be seen throughout the home. The second floor has two cozier living rooms separated by the atrium, and the bedrooms are one floor up.

Downstairs, the home has an in-law suite. There’s a deck out back, but no parking; the house comes with two separately-deeded parking spaces across the street at 3 Washington Circle.
