Fabio, Isabella, Dolcezza: The Food Scene Coming to The Wharf

UrbanTurf has covered a variety of the residential buildings on tap for The Wharf, but today we switch gears and look at the eateries that are on tap for the massive Southwest Waterfront development.

Below are the restaurants, cafes, bars and even distilleries scheduled to open in the first phase of The Wharf.

• Chef Fabio Trabocchi of Fiola fame is bringing a Spanish seafood restaurant called Del Mar to The Wharf. Inspired by Mallorca, a seaside town in the Mediterranean Spanish islands, the 11,500 square-foot spot will be Trabocchi’s largest restaurant yet.

• Requin, an indoor-outdoor restaurant collaboration from Mike Isabella and Top Chef finalist Jennifer Carrol, is also coming to the waterfront. The cuisine will be focused on shared plates in a French-Mediterranean style, accompanied by an extensive selection of European wines.

• Jamie Leeds, the chef behind Hank’s Oyster Bar, is also bringing a shared plates concept, albeit a more accessible version, with the upcoming Hank’s On The Water. This Hank’s outpost, to be situated at 7th Street Park and Wharf Street, will bring “urban beach food” to the masses.

• In the liquor department, Tood Thrasher will open a two-story tavern with an operating rum distillery called Potomac Distilling Company.

• A fifth restaurant will be a continuation of the Croxton family’s seafood legacy. The Rappahanock-based oyster-farming dynasty has been in the business since 1899. Now, fourth-generation cousins Travis and Ryan will be taking over the Municipal Fish Market’s 1912 oyster shed with a new Rappahanock Oyster Bar.

• Ireland native and Guinness alum Mark Kirwan will open Kirwan’s, a traditional Irish pub featuring live Irish music and entertainment.

• Casey Patten’s Taylor Gourmet, fast becoming a DC staple, represents the seventh offering headed to The Wharf.

• Dolcezza Gelato is continuing their quiet citywide expansion with the addition of a cafe on the waterfront, which will offer coffee, beer and wine, and sweets and savories along with their craft gelato.

• Cantina Marina, known as “DC’s original dock bar” and popular for it’s great drinks and live music, will continue to have a home on the waterfront as well.
