Stained Glass & Gothic Arches: Capitol Hill's Most Unique Luxury Condominium Hits the Market

DC’s Capitol Hill neighborhood is steeped in some of the country’s most illustrious history and is home to remarkable architecture. Now, one of its most prominent historic buildings has been given new life: Stanton Tower, now open for tours, is a state-of-the-art, six-residence condominium built into a stunning gothic church on Capitol Hill’s Stanton Park. The redevelopment won the Historic Preservation Project of the Year award in 2019.
The church was designed in 1891 by prominent DC architect Appleton P. Clark. Later known by locals as The Lighthouse on the Hill for its 130-foot bell tower, the church was a remarkable space characterized by two-story stained glass windows, decorative columns, a painted dome, beautiful plasterwork and a hardy exterior of Potomac bluestone with limestone trim. Though a beloved landmark, the church fell into disrepair in recent years and was no longer being used as a place of worship.
What is extraordinary about the condominiums at Stanton Tower is the consideration with which developer Morningstar Community Development mapped out each residence while restoring unique details and adding state-of-the art conveniences.
Morningstar masterfully created multi-level, townhome-like spaces, each featuring two, three or four bedrooms and measuring at over 2,000 square feet. The two-story stained-glass windows remain intact and the original arches and columns have been restored.
Luxury kitchen finishes at Stanton Tower include Scavolini cabinetry, natural quartz countertops, 30-inch Wolf Gas Ranges, Viking dishwashers and Liebher refrigerators. Bathrooms are all en-suite and include marble countertops and tiling. All homes also include ceiling-mounted speakers and private elevators, and some feature fireplaces and turrets.
Stanton Tower also offers residents one of the most unique amenities on the Hill: access to the top of the bell tower, whose spiral staircase, windows and chandeliers were lovingly restored. It is an ideal place for sipping wine and taking in sweeping views of the city.
Sales for Stanton Tower are by Washington Fine Properties and pricing starts at $1.795M. Prospective residents can now tour the property by appointment. For more information, contact Washington Fine Properties' Nancy Taylor Bubes, Liz D'Angio and Matt Ackland at 202.320.5227.
