Will a Decision on McMillan's Future Come This Month?: Figure 1
A rendering of the McMillan Reservoir redevelopment

Last year’s DC Court of Appeals decision to remand the McMillan Reservoir redevelopment back to the Zoning Commission (ZC) dealt a major setback to plans to construct a mixed-use community on the 25 acre-site along North Capitol Street between Michigan Avenue and 2501 First Street NW (map).

Now, after a series of zoning meetings brought forth new testimony addressing the concerns of neighborhood organization Friends of McMillan Park (FOMP), the Commission announced that it will hold a special public meeting discussing the McMillan redevelopment on June 29th.

In preparation for the meeting, the Commission will convene for two closed sessions where they will consult with a team of lawyers on the points in question, among them issues of whether the project has “special merit” and what standards to use to calculate the proper density for the site.

While the Commission didn’t specify whether they will make their final ruling on the 29th, it is reasonable to expect that, following the conclusion of testimony last month, the upcoming meeting will shed some light on what the next steps will be for the hotly-debated McMillan site.
