Live in this Silicon Valley House! (Humans Need Not Apply)

Want to live in the luxe Startup Castle in Silicon Valley? It’s 17,000 square feet, with a massive ballroom event space, an office, a library, conference rooms and luxury bedrooms for visiting investors. Private rooms start at $1,750, with a bed in one of the home’s “dormitories” going for $1,000.
Sounds great. But first, can you answer these questions?
- Do you wear make-up more than twice a week?
- Do you have more than one tattoo?
- Have you ever attended more than one protest?
- Do you listen to songs with explicit lyrics more than once a day?
If you answered yes to those — just a sampling from a much-longer list — well, sorry. The Startup Castle isn’t for you.
In case you’re still in, ideal candidates should “have a top-class degree or job with a strong math/science requirement,” “exercise at least 15 hours in a normal week,” be a bike commuter and “prefer organized systems and common rules.”
The towering list of requirements to live in the Startup Castle underscores the insanity of the Bay Area’s real estate market, where the median home price recently reached nearly $1 million and where the median rent for a one-bedroom is $3,460 a month.
