The plan to convert a Dupont Circle office building into a residential development appears close to getting its first approval.
The Historic Preservation Office (HPO) is recommending the Review Board (HPRB) approve the concept to convert the Longfellow Building at 1201 Connecticut NW (map) into a 161-unit apartment project.

The 12-story building will be renovated, and the ground floor will consist of retail and residential amenity space. A pool and other indoor and outdoor amenity spaces will be added to the roof. Maurice Walters is the project architect.
"The Longfellow Building is non-contributing to the historic district but is nonetheless an important landmark in the evolution of modern design," the HPO report stated. "The proposal respects its original design and goes a long way toward restoration while also adapting it to a new use."
The proposal will go before the HPRB later this week.
