Last spring, plans were teased to redevelop low-rise apartments off Starbust Plaza with a larger project. Now, the developers have filed a zoning application to make redevelopment possible — albeit at a smaller scale than initially proposed.

The proposed development would replace the two buildings at 1801 and 1805 Maryland Avenue NE (map) with a 28-unit building. The project previously would have included the six-unit building at 1809 Maryland Avenue and would have delivered about 57 units.
The proposed development would range from 4-5 stories tall with a habitable penthouse, delivering 17 one-bedroom and 11 two-bedroom units, including Inclusionary Zoning units. There would also be two surface parking spaces and a carshare space, along with 10 long-term bicycle spaces and a rooftop amenity. Square 134 Architects is the designer.
A zoning hearing is scheduled for November.
