Donald Rumsfeld's Kalorama Digs Hit the Open Market
Donald Rumsfeld’s brick-red federal-style house in Kalorama hit the open market on Tuesday for $4.495 million. The home had been privately listed for a few weeks.
The two-time defense secretary’s palatial home on Kalorama Road has seven bedrooms, 6.5 bathrooms, a swimming pool, a conservatory-like “garden room” and apparently no cool secret passageways or trick walls to speak of, if you can believe the listing description. But there are subtle clues to Rumsfeld’s ownership in the listing photos; one picture frame features a French World War I-era poster promoting the purchase of defense bonds.
The home’s many entertaining spaces, including a living room so large it comfortably fits at least three separate seating areas, are traditional and lavish, if a bit outdated. Upstairs, the master bedroom and en suite are modest, though the master bath does boast a bidet. Apart from a guest room, most of the other bedrooms appear vacant. The home’s basement is fully finished with two beds and two baths, according to the listing description.
Here are more photos of the listing:
