Modern and Glassy on Capitol Hill

Extensive renovations turned this Victorian into a modern, window-filled home on the Hill. Though it looks traditional from the front, the back of the home is now made completely of glass, which means that several rooms — including the master bedroom and living room — have walls that are quite window-heavy. The glassy back also looks onto what might be the best part of the home: a private, full grown garden and patio. We also liked the lofted features and split-leveling throughout the house, including a lofted bed space in one of the bedrooms and the cozy family room that peeks up into the dining room.

A Little Updating Needed in Eckington

Those who are priced out of Bloomingdale but want to be close to Big Bear Cafe and the area’s other new restaurants may consider Eckington, the neighborhood just across North Capitol Street. For example, for less than $400,000, you can still buy a full row house in Eckington. While this three-bedroom is in move-in condition, it would benefit from some updating: new floors in the kitchen, hallway and a few rooms would make an enormous difference. Regardless, it is hard to beat the price tag.

Bloomingdale Row House with a Sunroom

Beside its location in ever-growing Bloomingdale, the coolest parts of this listing are its outdoor and near-outdoor spaces. The sun room at the back of the house overlooks a patio with a built-in grill and gardens. The interior is charming, with richly colored wood trim around the doors and windows, and the finished lower level is also pretty convenient; with a kitchenette and full bathroom, it could be a great place for long-term guests or in-laws.
