One of the largest residential conversions in DC has been pitched for two prominent buildings on the northern edge of Dupont Circle.
The Philadelphia-based firm Post Brothers has plans in the works to convert the Universal buildings at 1825-1875 Connecticut Avenue NW (map) into a sprawling residential development with upwards of 500 apartments. Post Brothers acquired the two buildings, which were built in the 1950s and sit across from the Washington Hilton, from JBG SMITH earlier this year.

The conversion, designed by Handel Architects, would result in a 120-foot tall project with a penthouse that houses 502 apartments and a minimum of 253 parking spaces across the two buildings. The plans show retail as part of the development, as well as a new circular driveway and entrance along Florida Avenue.
UrbanTurf has reached out to Post Brothers for comment, and the firm will be presenting its plans to the ANC 1C planning and zoning committee later this month.
