It looks like one block of Mount Vernon Triangle is poised to become a mini-hotel district.
Kline Operations has filed plans with the Board of Zoning Adjustment that would enable construction of an 11-story hotel with 153 rooms run by Hilton's Tru brand.
The four lots from 923-927 5th Street NW (map) will be combined into a not-quite rectangular parcel; the application requests a special exception for the rear yard and penthouse and variances from closed court and loading requirements.

Fillat + Architecture designed the project, which will incorporate the facades that are on the site from razed buildings. The hotel will have a gym and meeting room on the cellar level; a lounge, "game zone" and dining area in the lobby; and a bar, lounge and rooftop terrace in and around the penthouse.
Most recently, the Historic Preservation Review Board had approved plans to utilize the existing facades to create a 40-unit condo building by Peebles Corporation. Peebles is also working on constructing the city's first SLS Lux Hotel and Residences next door at 901 5th Street.
