A Fieldstone House with a Flagstone Patio
Just under $2 million can get you a French Norman-style house with a backyard pool in Spring Valley. The aesthetic of the arched front door is echoed throughout the main floor with deep arched entryways with raised inset panels. A recently-renovated chef’s kitchen with Viking appliances and marble backsplash leads to a breakfast room with French doors opening onto the backyard. A large formal dining room features a bay window, which also creates a built-in seating and shelving unit in the lower level family room. All three bedrooms on the upper level have double exposure to natural light.

Bold Design and a Double Balcony in Burleith
Just north of Georgetown in Burleith, the surprises don’t stop at the exterior of this modern rowhouse. A lower level in-law suite has a separate patio entrance at the front; its bedroom opens onto a partially-paved rear garden with a hot tub. The rest of the house makes use of its loft-like interior with 21-foot ceilings on the main floor and an upper level loft/sitting room overlooking the open living room. Floating stairs lead directly to the third floor master suite with a sitting area, where both the suite and its bathroom open onto a south-facing balcony.

A Mid-Century Home on a Half-Acre in Bethesda
While this Bethesda home has a traditional Arts and Crafts exterior, the interior is much more contemporary, with design elements that play with geometry and negative space. The stairs are slatted and have carved railings, while the loft above also has a picture cut-out looking over the living room below. The windows are arranged geometrically and there are slanted and vaulted ceilings throughout the house. The master bedroom has French doors opening directly onto a balcony and the basement opens onto a stone-paved multi-level patio with outdoor fireplace.
