Zillow has Zestimates and now Trulia has Trulia Estimates.
Real estate search website Trulia has launched a test version of its new real estate valuation service, Trulia Estimates. The service (in beta) is being tested for homes in the San Francisco area, so those in DC can’t play around with it yet. The plan is for the service to eventually be rolled out nationally, but no timeline is set, company spokesperson Ken Shuman told UrbanTurf.
Like the Zestimate, Zillow’s proprietary algorithm that provides values for homes, the goal with Trulia Estimates is to provide home valuations for consumers and professionals around the country. The Zestimate has been a target for critics, primarily due to its questionable accuracy, and Trulia has put out disclaimers that the data provided through Trulia Estimates should not be used in place of a formal home appraisal.
Another interesting aspect of both the Trulia service and the Zestimate is that users can provide feedback on the home valuations that will affect the valuation in some way. How effective this will be and the manner in which it will be incorporated into the Trulia Estimates algortihm will be ironed out in the testing phase, according to Shuman.
