Bella in Ballston
Chef Mike Isabella has announced that he will be opening a new spinoff concept of his recently opened Kapnos on 14th Street. Kapnos Taverna will be located at 4000 Wilson Boulevard in Ballston and is expected to open in summer 2014. The restaurant will feature a number of dishes from Kapnos in DC as well as new dishes. It will also have the largest wine list of any of Isabella’s restaurants with over 200 bottles.
East Enders in East Dupont
Duke’s Grocery opened on Tuesday at 1513 17th Street NW, according to Washington City Paper. The market’s sandwich menu is influenced by the diverse communities of London with fillings of Vietnamese banh mi, Polish kielbasa, and the popular salt beef of East London. You can also pick up produce from Potomac Farm Market, and in the evenings you can stop in for beer and cocktails.

Mexican in Bloomingdale
Eater reports that the owners of 1905 Restaurant and Sticky Rice are planning to open a Mexican restaurant at 108 Rhode Island Avenue NW. Details are still being hammered out, but they are planning to open next summer.
It’ll Be Chili in Virginia
The owners of Ben’s Chili Bowl have signed a lease for a new location in Rosslyn at 1725 Wilson Boulevard, according to Washington Business Journal. This will join its U Street and planned H Street NE locations. Owner Nizam Ben Ali is aiming for an early 2014 opening.
A Pint at Monroe Street Market
The team behind Meridian Pint and Smoke and Barrel will be opening a new casual restaurant at Monroe Street Market in Brookland. Monroe Street Market is a $200 million development near Catholic University that will bring residential, retail and artist studio space to Brookland. Other than sounding a bit like a high-end pub, not many details have been revealed about the new restaurant, which does not have a set opening date.
