824 Duke Street in Old Town
Old Town Alexandria is aptly named, and walking around can feel like taking a historic tour. This Week’s Find is a Duke Street row house that has been around for almost two hundred years.
This 1,152-square foot colonial-style row home was built in 1820, at a time when Alexandria was a town of only about 8,000 people.
It was updated in 2003, but still has some features that make it feel relic-like: a brick floor in the kitchen, a hatch in the living room leading to a cinder-block basement, and hard pine flooring.
There are cozy aspects to the home as well, including built-in bookcases, a vaulted ceiling in the master bedroom, a private landscaped garden in the back, and a skylight in the second bedroom.
According to the current owner, the block, which is just around the corner from the main drag on King Street, is friendly, with regular opportunities to socialize.
