This Week's Find: Slightly More Modern Than Mid-Century: Figure 1
2800 Abilene Drive, Chevy Chase, MD

This Week’s Find is a 1960-built home that feels slightly more modern than its mid-century birthday would suggest.

While it appears to be a one-story home from the front, this 1,559-square foot Chevy Chase listing is located on a hill that conceals a spacious lower level. From the sides and the back, you can see the complete home, which opens up to a view of Rock Creek Park.

The back of the house — the living room on the first floor and the family room on the lower level — have rear walls that are largely made of glass, giving the house a modern, breezy vibe. The open floor plan and the thin, metal staircase also amplify the modern feeling, taking the home beyond traditional mid-century design.

The current owners expanded the original structure, adding on a large master bedroom and bath to the first floor in 2002. A second kitchen is attached to the downstairs family room, and both kitchens have been recently renovated as well. More photos and details below.
