This Week's Find: An Alley Home on the Hill That Used To Be a Refrigeration Plant
Built in 1920, this alley home on Capitol Hill has quite the history.
614 A Street SE Rear (map) was purchased by artist Walter Kravitz and his wife Judith Harris in the late 1980s. A refrigeration plant at the time, the couple set about converting the property into an art studio on the main level and a living space on the floor above.

The transformation, which took four years to complete with the help of interior designer Mary Douglas Drysdale, created a 4,800 square-foot home with a living space laid out in an open loft style with incredibly high ceilings. The art studio on the ground level offers an ideal workshop space for the next owner.
A staircase on the top floor leads up to a potential roof deck, complete with a view of the surrounding area, and the home comes with an interior garage parking space.
