Your guests may not be able to find this home on Google Maps, but if you’re looking for an escape from the city, that might work in your favor. The house at 78 Baker Mountain Drive (map) is the product of its owners’ collaboration with architect Matthew Jelacic, now a professor at the University of Colorado Boulder. The result is a house built to take advantage of its secluded spot on the hillside and its mountain views. The two-bedroom home, plus guest house, sits on 22 acres of forest, and has a bit of a personal island feel as you arrive at the main house by walking over a pedestrian bridge.

In the primary bedroom, a built-in daybed takes advantage of a bay of windows looking out onto a mountain range. The main house, which has two beds, one full bath and a half-bath, uses most of its square footage for communal living areas, like the combined living room and kitchen. A large deck, also mountain-facing, is made for pulling up an Adirondack chair.

Outside and up a path built into a small hill, a guest house that doubles as a studio has two additional bedrooms and a full bath. The Murphy beds are concealed in a storage wall, making room for painting or other work when not in use, and barn-style doors can create an open or closed-off space.
