The Columbian: Modern Condo Renovation of a Historic Townhouse

This weekend in Columbia Heights, Lock 7 Development will unveil The Columbian, a completely renovated historic, boutique condominium project featuring six high-end homes. Open houses are scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday between 2:00pm and 4:00pm, and Lock 7 anticipates a crowd: the firm’s residential projects usually sell out within 11 days.
The new condos were carved out of a traditional brick townhouse, originally built at the turn of the century. The Columbian features five two-bedroom, two-level homes, as well as one one-bedroom unit. All six units have private outdoor space and lots of natural light. Some have balconies, while the penthouses have roof decks and the ground-floor unit has both a private courtyard and access to the front yard. Two-bedroom units are priced between $499,000 and $699,000, and the one-bedroom unit is priced at $399,000. Two parking spaces are also available for $35,000 each.
The Columbian is located at 1448 Harvard Street NW (map), just two blocks from the Columbia Heights Metro station. While close to the redevelopment of 14th Street, numerous restaurants (Room 11, El Chucho, Meridian Pint) and the massive DC USA retail complex -- which includes a Target, Best Buy, and Bed Bath & Beyond -- The Columbian is part of the neighborhood’s much quieter residential section.

Inside The Columbian, all units have maple hardwood floors throughout, large windows and skylights, high cielings with recessed lighting and large swaths of exposed brick wall in common areas. Kitchens have been outfitted with stainless steel Kitchenaid Architect II appliances, quartz countertops, and shaker-style cabinets. Bathrooms feature Kohler fixtures and Porcelanosa tile.
