The Breaking Bad Beach House

For the majority of UrbanTurf staff, the return of AMC’s Breaking Bad could not come quicker. So, we only saw it fitting to feature Walter White’s beach house on this Friday afternoon.

Actor Bryan Cranston (who plays the increasingly “broken bad” Mr. White on the show) has turned a property once used as military housing on the beach outside L.A. into one of the greenest houses on the west coast.

Dwell has the full story on the 3Palms Project, the name for the passive designed, net zero energy home, but here are just a few features of the property that only amplify Cranston’s coolness in our eyes:

• The three-bedroom home uses passive solar design to generate 100% of its electricity from photovoltaic panels, and it heats hot water using solar thermal units.
• 100% of the lumber for the house comes from sustainably harvested forests.
• The facade is made largely of titanium to remain resistant to the salt water coming off the ocean.
• The interior walls are covered in a special clay to help control humidity.
• In addition to a whole home vacuum system, the house has a car lift system to help free up additional square footage.
