The Billion Dollar Home: Figure 1

Million-dollar homes are a dime a dozen these days, but billion dollar homes are unheard of.

Until now.

The New York Daily News recently reported that Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in India, has built the world’s first billion-dollar home in Mumbai. The 27-story home has three helipads, a parking garage for 160 cars and a wait staff of 600.

The Daily News’ Aliyah Shahid puts the home’s size in perspective:

“The 37,000-square meter home, which took seven years to build, is bigger than the Palace of Versailles, London’s Telegraph reported. The building resembles a glass and steel Lego stack, interspersed with hanging gardens. The building soars more than 550 feet, and has stunning views that look over Mumbai and the Arabian Sea.”

Needless to say the home has its critics in a country where millions live in extreme poverty. That criticism, however, has not resulted in the cancellation of what is supposedly the world’s most expensive house warming party later this month.
