To the dismay of homeowners in the DC area, news came last week that the supply of homes for sale in the region was at historically low levels in December.
To put that shortage in a bit more perspective, Bright MLS provided UrbanTurf with a list of the close-in cities in Maryland and Virginia with the lowest supply of homes on the market right now.

The top of the list is dominated by Virginia exurbs, with Sterling having a mere 4-day supply of homes for sale in December. Gaithersburg and Potomac are the two Maryland cities with the lowest supply, with just about a ten-day inventory on the market. Every city on the list above has less than a month's supply of homes for sale.
Note: A month's supply of homes for sale means that if no new homes hit the market, the supply of homes would run out in 30 days.
