A six-story mixed-use development is set to go up at 3807 Rhode Island Avenue in Brentwood, MD (map), UrbanTurf has learned. The structure will have commercial space, ground-floor retail and five residential stories.
The project will be a part of the Gateway Arts and Entertainment District in Mount Rainer, North Brentwood and Hyattsville. The Redevelopment Authority of Prince George’s County is hoping that the recently-chosen developer, Landex Companies, will design the project with the arts in mind.
“The project will reinforce the area’s branding as an ‘arts destination’ by offering artist spaces that include retail, exhibition and performance space,” said Howard Ways, Executive Director of the Redevelopment Authority. “The building will also be built to a minimum Silver LEED certification.”
A 17,000-square-foot vacant building will be demolished for the development, and local firm Grimm and Parker will be the lead architects. There are no details yet as to how many residential units the project will have.
