A planned transit-oriented development in Prince George's County is pausing construction plans given current economic uncertainty.
Retail Properties of America announced this week that it will not proceed with vertical construction at this time on its mixed-use development at the former site of the Boulevard at the Capital Centre, Yahoo Finance reports. The Carillon development, off I-495 at Arena Drive (map), was slated to deliver 351 apartments, a 100,000 square-foot medical center, and 135,600 square feet of retail.

Future phases could deliver as much as 2,649 residential units, 300,000 square feet of retail, and 964,000 square feet of other commercial space. The first phase was expected to begin delivering late next year.
RPAI CEO Steve Grimes shared that the firm still plans to complete preparatory sitework this year, but expects to be more risk-averse as it charts a way forward.
