Rent is Too Damn Low for Jimmy McMillan

In this week’s departure from all things DC real estate-related, we learn that Jimmy McMillan of Rent is Too Damn High fame is being kicked out of his Manhattan apartment because (according to him), the rent has been deemed to low.
The New York Post reports that McMillan, who pays $873 a month for a rent-controlled apartment in Manhattan’s East Village, is being evicted from the apartment by his landlords. The Post reports that the building owner claims that the apartment is not McMillan’s primary residence, a violation of the terms of his lease. McMillan counters that the landlords want to kick him out, so that they can get someone new in there who will pay more in rent.
In his own words: “I’ve been here since 1977, and they want more money! It’s about ‘My Rent is Too Damn Low.’”
McMillan rose to nationwide fame back in October 2010 for his performance at the New York governor’s debate, which essentially stole the stage from big-name candidates like Andrew Cuomo. See the video of the debate below:
