If you are looking for a home to buy online, one site will now give you zoning information for the address.

On Monday, Redfin announced that it had added zoning data of more than 70 million homes on its platform, including for-sale listings in the DC region.

In DC, listings will now display the zone name, the zone type and the zone code for the address, and it will also tell you the types of structures (single-family, multi-family, accessory-dwelling units) that are allowed.

"In addition to determining what property types and density are allowed in a neighborhood, zoning and land-use laws dictate whether you can do things like build an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in your backyard, run a business out of your garage, have farm animals, or list your home as a vacation rental," a Redfins statement read. "These laws and regulations can be difficult to learn about, since relevant information is often buried on government websites or in complex local zoning codes."
