Last October, Petra Development shared plans for an all-affordable development in the Takoma Historic District. Now, the project is on the road to approval.
Petra has filed a concept application with the Historic Preservation Review Board for a project that would deliver 66 apartments to 6928 Maple Street NW (map). The development would entail the relocation of the house at 6950 Maple Street NW (map) to the southeast corner of the site at Vine Street, where it would retain a commercial use and make way for the building's construction.

The existing house is currently occupied by arts education nonprofit Rhizome and is considered a contributing building to the Takoma Historic District. The 50 foot-tall proposed development otherwise adheres to the zoning regulations. Petra Design Studio is the architect.
All of the residential units would be affordable to housing voucher recipients, and the unit mix would span from one- to four-bedrooms, the latter an addition since plans were first shared. There would also be 23 long-term bicycle spaces and 7 secured surface parking spaces.
