WaterShed house. University of Maryland.
WaterShed, the University of Maryland-designed home that took top honors at the 2011 Solar Decathalon, has found an owner: Pepco.
The energy-efficient home will soon be a “living classroom” at one of Pepco’s Montgomery County facilities, announced The University of Maryland on Monday. Pepco will conduct research at the home, monitoring its performance and adding their own efficient innovations like smart thermostats and an electric car charging station.
The WaterShed home, inspired by the Chesapeake Bay, was conceived by 200 students, faculty and mentors from the University of Maryland. Among its energy-efficient and water-conserving features were an indoor waterfall, photovoltaic panels and a system that recycles grey water for use in the garden.
