Last fall UrbanTurf wrote a piece about shell houses in Baltimore, and how intrepid investors scoop them up for what seem like jaw-dropping prices often in the low five figures. Of course, most of these properties are in rough areas and need a complete rehabilitation that would add significantly to the true cost. “In most shell houses, the interior is a mess,” Keith French of Baltimore’s United Property Group told UrbanTurf at the time. “You have to gut everything except for the walls and start from the ground up.” Still, the prospect of rehabbing a stately old Baltimore row house to its former glory is intriguing. Here’s your chance.
Alex Cooper will auction off three shell houses in Baltimore today starting at 2pm. The auctioneer describes all three as “investment properties” in need of “total renovation”. It is an online-only auction. Two of the properties have starting bids of $25,000; the other, $90,000. The photos, with links:
