In this week’s edition of NoVa Best New Listings, we look at a Morris Day renovated bungalow in Cherrydale, a home with a stained glass-accented sun room on Alexandria’s west side, and a Lyon Park Cape Cod that sits right on the park.
Renovated Morris Day Bungalow in Cherrydale
This Arlington bungalow was given a big, modern renovation by Morris Day—the McLean design/architecture firm, not the frontman from the Time and friend of Prince. The firm has a reputation in this region for updating (and often expanding) homes, but not veering into McMansion territory. This Cherrywood home is a good example of that—it’s still an Arlington bungalow, but a little more decked out, with large refinished porches and a big butcher block island in the kitchen. It’s a good-looking house, unless you were expecting a design by the other Morris Day, in which case the lack of purple walls and gold fixtures might be a little disappointing.

Cape Cod in Lyon Park with a Turkey Trot View
This four-bedroom isn’t just in Lyon Park, it’s on Lyon Park. The home sits right on the the Arlington neighborhood’s namesake recreational space, making Lyon Park an extension of the home’s outdoor space (a large deck and decent-sized yard). The listing is in a pretty good spot for an owner who wants to be able to walk across the street to the community’s annual Halloween parade and Thanksgiving turkey trot, or just likes the idea of being able to watch those festivities from the window.

Alexandria House with Stained Glass in the Sun Room
This brick four-bedroom in Alexandria’s Varsity Park enclave has two features that separate it from the other brick homes in the neighborhood. The first is a living room with built-in mahogany bookcases that surround a fireplace, which sounds like a feature you’d find in a home twice the price of this one. The second stand-out feature is a giant sun room or “great” room, large enough to allow one to graduate from just throwing a party to “entertaining.” In our opinion, a property with mahogany shelves and a great room also deserves a yacht — this property unfortunately does not come with one.
