Naylor Court Stables Opens on Historic DC Alley

Before cars (even cable cars) and before the White House was erected, the equestrian alley of Naylor Court existed in what is now Shaw. It is there, near 10th and O Streets NW, that Sean Ruppert of boutique development firm OPaL recently completed three luxury homes, collectively named Naylor Court Stables.
Built from the ground up (in place of a garage that collapsed during DC’s 2010 blizzard), the townhomes are neighbors to former horse stables and a handful of historic carriage homes that give this block-within-a-block its unique character.
In honor of the alley’s long history, the three new residences incorporate details that are in architectural keeping with their historic surroundings: small, rounded horse-height windows, sliding barn doors and exterior hayloft doors.
As far as modern luxuries go, Naylor Court Stables is giving DC’s new-build-townhouse market some competition. Each of the 2,600 square-foot, three-bedroom, 4.5-bath homes has its own carriage house with storage and parking, as well as a 200-square-foot terrace. Interior details include 8-½ foot windows in the master bedroom, commercial-grade appliances, marble countertops, espresso hardwoods and skylights that filter light from the top floor to the ground floor.
While alley living is quaint and quiet, the location of Naylor Court Stables is central to the nucleus of DC nightlife in Logan Circle, Shaw and U Street. Nearby are restaurants like Corduroy, Estadio and Le Diplomate; venues including the 9:30 Club and Studio Theater; and grocery stores like Whole Foods and the soon-to-open City Market at O.
One of the townhomes is already off the market, but two remain and can be viewed at the grand opening for Naylor Court Stables this Saturday and Sunday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. An open house for the Stables model home, decorated in ultra-modern furnishings by P Four’s Shawn Evans, will be held on the evening of November 14th.
