The DC home of Marcus Baker, one of the co-founders of the National Geographic Society, just hit the market this week. Baker was one of the 15 original signers of the articles of incorporation for the National Geographic Society back in 1888. He was a well known geologist and cartographer.
The home, now known as the Marcus Baker House, was built for Baker in 1889 at 1905 16th Street NW (map). The five-bedroom townhouse has approximately 4,000 square feet of living space, which includes a two-bedroom, lower-level apartment.
While much of the home’s moldings and woodwork have been preserved, one amenity that has certainly been added since Baker owned the home is a media room with surround sound and a home theater setup. The home now also has garage parking and a number of outdoor decks.
