Following three years of declines, home sales are poised to bounce back next year. At least according to one industry professional.
Lawrence Yun, the chief economist for the National Association of Realtors, expects home sales to rise 14% next year.
“Next year is really the year that we will see a measurable increase in sales,” Yun said. "As we go into next year, the mortgage rate will be a little bit better. It’s not going to be a big decline, but it will be a modest decline that will improve affordability.”
Yun expects that interest rates will fall to the 6% by the spring, leading more home sellers to enter the market. In the DC region, home sales are running slightly lower than last year through October.
