Two months ago, the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB) granted preliminary design approval to the proposed Logan Circle Barrel House redevelopment. While preliminary approval was granted, the HPRB members’ comments included a desire to see various design elements refined, such as simplified facade materiality and more variance in the color and extent of various setbacks on the top two floors on both 14th Street and Rhode Island Avenue.

Now, the development team is applying for relief from the Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) — and is presenting a new design from Bonstra|Haresign Architects that appears to be more in line with the HPRB’s notes.
The Metropolis Development Company-led redevelopment will deliver a seven-story building with 37 residences atop ground-floor retail; there will also be two regular and two carshare parking spaces. The development team is currently seeking relief from setback and penthouse height requirements.
Below are renderings of both the older and newest iterations of the design for the Barrel House at 1341-1345 14th Street NW (map).
