Landlords: Foreclosure Will Not Affect Rental Prospects

Those who have had their homes foreclosed on and are worried about how that may affect their ability to rent in the future can rest a little easier.
In a recent survey by the National Association of Independent Landlords, 82 percent of independent landlords said that they would rent to someone with a previous foreclosure, as long as the applicant has traditionally had good credit. The survey polled 563 members of the association at the end of March.
Tracey Benson, president of The National Association of Independent Landlords, said that landlords normally won’t rent to applicants with poor credit, and that foreclosures “absolutely slam someone’s scores.” However, she noted that “the exception is when they see people who have paid their bills their whole life, but lost their job, can’t meet their mortgage and must hand their keys back to the bank.”
