What's Hot: How Fast Are Homes Selling in DC?
Hot Pads Launches School-Based Housing Search

Housing search engine HotPads.com announced a new function today that allows users to search for properties on the market by school attendance zones. School attendance zones (not to be confused with school districts) are the boundaries that define which households in a certain area are able to attend specific public schools.
To find out which homes fall within a certain attendance zone, the user enters the name of the school into the site’s search function and the homes that pop up are those that fall within that zone. If the user does not know the name of a particular school, but knows the area that they want to live in, they can click the “Schools” tab at the top of the site and highlight all the school zones in a certain area.
Because attendance zones are subsections of school districts in DC, Paul Gleger of HotPads explained to UrbanTurf that the function provides a more granular/neighborhood-oriented search option. So far, HotPads has added 60 percent of the public schools in DC, but the remaining schools will be added in the coming weeks.
We are not sure how well the new function works, but plan on playing around with it this afternoon.
