Statistics released today by the Federal Bureau of Investigation show that crime is down across the board in DC.
In every statistical category that the FBI analyzed for the nation’s capital, there was a drop in incident level. Specifically, violent crimes dropped from 8,135 in 2008 to 7,586 in 2009; murders dropped to 143 from 186 and the incidents of reported aggravated assault fell to 3,295 from 3,609. Property crimes, which include burglary, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft, dropped slightly, from 28,759 in 2008 to 27,007 in 2009.

The released numbers are only preliminary, and the final statistics will not come out until around October. Regardless, the drop in every category will probably make DC residents sleep a little better tonight.
