There is a new option for homeowners that want an accessory dwelling unit (ADU).
Dwell magazine has partnered with prefabricated homebuilder Abodu on the Dwell House, a 540-square-foot one-bedroom ADU that is built off-site and then delivered to your property.

The home comes with a full bathroom and kitchen, the latter which is hidden in cabinetry allowing for the space to serve other functions such as an office or exercise room. There is also a 12-foot folding glass wall that opens to the outside and a full suite of appliances.
"According to a recent Dwell survey of U.S. subscribers, 71 percent of respondents are interested in adding an ADU to their backyard," Dwell said in a release. "81 percent of that subset would use the house as a guest property for visitors or multigenerational space for family members, while 74 percent would use it as a flex space for a home gym, office, studio, etc."
Estimated time from order to delivery is six months and pricing starts at $389,000. Unfortunately for DC-area residents, the homes are currently only being shipped to Los Angeles, the Bay area and Seattle.
