Homeowners often lament brokerage fees: a 6% commission awarded to the seller’s and buyer’s agents once a house is sold. As the percentage is proportional to the transaction value, what at first seems just a small fraction can quickly become a large chunk of change.
Heeding the chatter, DC Home Buzz has become the first brokerage in the DC metro area to offer their full services (including marketing, complimentary staging and a dedicated agent) for a flat fee of $9,990. The firm's agents also work to both competitively price homes and negotiate higher sales prices, juggle multiple offers and handle contract-to-close management.
"For sellers, this means that rather than paying the customary 6%, they pay 3% to the buyer's agent and just $9,900 to us, no matter what the home sells for," says DC Home Buzz's broker and owner Ati Williams. "For any home that sells for $400,000 or more, that’s savings—up to $20,000 in some cases."
Consider the following breakdown of transaction value to savings with DC Home Buzz's flat fee alternative:
In addition to their new offer -- which was recently featured in a piece by the Washington Post -- DC Home Buzz will continue to offer top-notch services for homes listed at any value. Services include complimentary staging, professional photography, wine and cheese open houses, exposure on a dozen sites including social media and Zillow, and a tailored video.
When asked why DC Home Buzz decided to offer this new program, Williams responded, "Every real estate brokerage can decide how much commission they charge. We’ve decided to charge less -- it’s that simple."
