It's that time of year again when UrbanTurf reflects on some of DC’s most interesting real estate topics from the last 12 months. This week, we refresh your memory on some of the best, most intriguing and most peculiar things we came across throughout 2019. Enjoy.
Short-term rentals seem to up the ante every year on offering unusual overnight experiences, and DC was no exception in 2019.
Earlier this year, the Watergate Hotel made available a "Glamping Globe" on top of Top of the Gate, the hotel's new rooftop restaurant. The transparent globe, provided by Brooklyn-based Terra Glamping, could be reserved for two guests at $3,000 for one night.

Included in that $3,000 is access to a top-floor hotel room and a VIP table at Top of the Gate, as well as a dedicated butler. Guests could also utilize a telescope on the roof, enjoy breakfast served on the roof in the morning, and receive "turndown service with eucalyptus essential oils".
Globe-glampers would not have the run of the roof after the restaurant closed, however. There are quiet hours from midnight to 7am; no visitors are allowed; and music, recreational drugs, smoking, and drunkenness are prohibited.
For now, the Watergate roof-dome experience has reverted to its original use, allowing guests to reserve it to experience the hotel's venues Next Whisky Bar or the Kingbird. Each 12-foot globe is heated and can seat up to a party of 8.
