DC Metrocentric is reporting that the “long awaited” Columbia Heights Civic Plaza is now under construction. The kaleidoscope-shaped area will be located at the intersection of Kenyon Street, Park Road and 14th Street, and will measure almost 12,000 square feet.

Columbia Heights’ renaissance has been well-documented over the last few years, and the new plaza will only aid this area’s appeal to home buyers. The new park will include “terraced grass “seats”, a fountain, and lots of street furniture,” according to DC Metrocentric. The smaller section of the plaza will be able to accommodate 800 to 1,000 people, and for larger community events, the streets can be closed off and the larger space can support up to 3,000.
The plaza is set to open by the end of the summer.
