People’s definitions of a big home can vary widely. For a first-time buyer, a 1,000 square-foot condo can seem like a mansion, particularly if he/she has been confined to a 500 square-foot rental apartment for a few years.
In Montgomery County, they have a different definition of big. UrbanTurf has learned that the largest home in the county (according to Bethesda Magazine) recently hit the market.
Indoor Pool
The 35,000 square-foot mansion sits on just under five acres spread over two lots. The home was built in 1995 by Rashid Chaudhary, a cosmetics manufacturer, so that his four daughters could attend school in Northern Virginia. Now that his children have completed school, he is heading back to Chicago where his business is located.
The property took three years to design and build, and has hosted the Clintons and Gores at a number of functions. Al Gore even planted two trees in the backyard. The owners named the estate Haveli, which means “Gathering place for important people.”
Living Room
Now for some features that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else:
- The home has the largest chandelier ever hung in a private residence.
- Looking up from the tennis court, it is over 200 feet to the roof.
- By the numbers: There are 12 bedrooms, including a two-story royal master suite, 18 bathrooms, 49 closets, two saunas, two dining rooms, six kitchens, 265 windows, a grand foyer with 37 foot ceilings, and a 38-foot indoor pool.
Interested? All this can be yours for the tidy sum of $8,999,999.
