Since the beginning of the month, three liveaboards have been listed for sale at Gangplank Marina, perhaps DC’s most unique residential community.
The live-aboard boats, which are selling for $150,000-200,000, are part of close to 100 water residences that call the Washington Channel home. Some of the live-aboards were shifted for coming construction of The Wharf, which will move forward in phases during the coming years. The first phase is scheduled to be finished by 2017. No word on whether construction is what’s causing these residents to jump ship, but at least one of the sellers encourages prospective buyers to do their research on the coming development before buying.
Here’s a summary of what just hit the market at Gangplank Marina:
This 1970s-era, 58-foot boat with three cabins (bedrooms, for the uninitiated) and a teak interior is selling for $169,000. The vessel has been on the market before, but it is now listed at a reduced price. Liveaboard privileges at Gangplank Marina and a 13.5 foot Boston Whaler dinghy convey with the purchase of The Third Mate.
This 42-foot houseboat offers about 700 square feet of interior space, a 250 square-foot roof deck and full liveaboard privileges at the marina. While the three options featured here are all liveaboards, this is the only full-fledged houseboat. It’s selling for $200,000.
This cool little tugboat dates back to World War II. At 64-feet long, it has a “large kitchen, wood floors, tall ceilings, and entertaining capabilities” and the listing claims that it has hosted parties for upwards of 30 guests. It’s being sold for $150,000. The owners did major work on the boat in October 2012.
